On Wednesday, December 15, The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held elections for the Organizational Committee of the Peacebuilding Commission. The PBC Organizational Committee establishes the Commission's agenda of work as well as its Integrated Peacebuilding Strategies.
In an uncontested vote, seven members were elected to the Organizational Committee. As per the ECOSOC resolution, one seat was allocated to each of the five regional groups, with the remaining two seats allocated to the African group. New members may serve two-year, renewable terms, beginning January 1, 2011.
The following states were elected in their respective regional groups (with Egypt and the Republic of Korea renewing their terms):
African States: Egypt, Rwanda, Zambia
Asian States: Republic of Korea
Eastern European States: Ukraine
Latin America and Caribbean States: Guatemala
Western Europe and Other States: Spain
The election dates for those seats to be elected by the General Assembly and Security Council have yet to be announced.
